Three
of the most important items
to keep in
mind in regard to replacement
windows
1. Choose your contractor
carefully. Large companies
with excellent salesman
may not give you the level
of service that you expect.
No matter how popular a
company is, demand references
from their LAST FIVE WINDOW
JOBS and actually call the
customers and see if they
are satisfied. An alternative
is to request the addresses
of the last five customers
and drive by the house to
see the quality of workmanship.
2. Wood windows in general
are almost double the price
of vinyl replacement windows
and most require maintenance
on the inside of the house
(painting or staining).
Also, in most cases they
involve much more labor
to install as the whole
existing frame is removed
before installing a whole
new window.
3. Choosing the right Vinyl
Replacement window is confusing
as there seems to be a limitless
number of replacement window
manufacturers. Some contractors
do not tell you what brand
of window they use but call
it the same as their contracting
name. Stick with a well
known brand and remember
your guarantee is only as
good as the reputation of
the manufacturer and contractor.
Most lifetime warrantees
are based on the fact that
you will move on average
every 7 years. Ask if the
warranty is transferable
to the next homeowner.
