Catering Advice from the Experts

The best advice for finding a good caterer is… Ask around. Talk to your coworkers, friends and family to see if they have used or attended an event that had a good caterer. Ask them about the caterer's pricing, food quality, customer service, attention to detail, and the final presentation at the event.

Caterers are a great starting point for almost any event. They often coordinate with, and see the quality from other vendors who specialize in products/services such as equipment rentals, entertainment, bakeries, photography/videography, transportation, floral arrangements, etc… They may also suggest a venue for your event.

When dealing with caterers, take notice to their customer service. Are they working around your needs or telling you what you want? Let them know what your ideas, desires & needs are first. Then ask them how they can be of service. If they cannot accommodate you, they can usually point you in the right direction.

When ordering food, consider who will be attending and let the caterer know. Will there be many children? Will there be guests that have bottomless stomachs? Will there be vegetarians or vegans? For events with many guests, ordering a little extra is never a bad idea. However, do not let the caterer sell you more than what you need.

It is never too early to place a catering order. Being "ahead of the game" has many benefits, such as:

1.) It is one less thing to worry about.

2.) It will allow more time to make menu changes. You never know who might want to contribute their own dishes.

3.) When the event's budget is a main priority, It gives you time to shop around.
